Izzy:
Hi everyone, I'm so excited to be writing home to tell you guys about our day.
The trip so far has been such an incredible experience and so eye opening! Despite missing everyone at home, I've enjoyed every moment! Today we got up and did some extra tag rugby training in the morning where we worked on our coaching skills and identifying different types of foul play. We then had a quick breakfast before heading out to our first school. We coached for an hour and met some amazing kids. We then headed off to our second school of the day. We had to walk for about 5-10 mins to a dead end road, where we played with the kids as they didn't have fields to play on.
We headed back to camp for some lunch before heading over to our third and last school. We coached some really talented players on really pretty but small grounds. We came back to camp and had an amazing evening! I played more rugby with Jen before dancing and playing games with all the young leaders out here (who are really friendly and fun).
Overall, I've had a great day and a great trip so far and I can't wait to see what else they have in store for us.
Goodnight!
P.S I miss all of you so much and can't wait to tell you all about my trip in more detail but I'm having so much fun and I've only got one mozzie bite so far (bet I've jinxed it now). Love you all so much! xxx
Leila:
Hello everyone, hope all is well. Today I woke up freezing, as I have every other night. However, I slightly fixed the issue with 2 pairs of trackies, 2 long sleeve tops and a hoodie.
This morning, instead of having breakfast straight away, we practiced plating tag rugby and refereeing for just over an our. We had 2 pitches; one for the people who are more confident and the other for less confident so they could receive assistance and advice to boost their confidence. This was fun as we were all under the same understanding of the rules, and it was exciting to actually play the game rather than just coaching. Then we had some cereal; love me some Weetos!
After that we separated into our 2 minibuses which was a lot of fun because we had a speaker on and everyone was singing and clapping.
We then arrived at our schools, split into groups of 2 and setup pitches. We played the warm up games and then got into the rugby. It was absolutely brilliant to experience coaching and refereeing these kids, all from such young ages all the way up to slightly older than us. Just witnessing how kids with so much less than us appreciate and enjoy just an hour of running around with the ball.
The second school was pretty much the same, as was the third after lunch.
At the end of the coaching day, some of us went into the freezing pool and then I had my freezing cold shower. Very refreshing!
Then I was out with some of the girls with a speaker in the middle of our circle on the campsite field singing and dancing. As time went on and the sun went down, the circle grew where almost everyone was singing and dancing together, including the teachers and the young leaders. The young leaders taught us their dance moves and we taught them some of our favourites, such as YMCA, The Macarena and the Cha Cha Slide.
The day was overall amazing, can't wait for tomorrow!! Plus, the food is so good here. I love the lady, Sarah, who cooks our dinner!
See you in two and a half weeks!
Miss you fam a lot!! Especially Popples! Love you all xxx

ReplyDeleteInteresting to see how you can still have fun with tag rugby at a dead end road. In the end it’s the people that matter.
