Tuesday 22nd July

Bea: This morning we got involved in more amazing community projects such as brick-laying (in the hopes of making a storage room,) painting the buildings of the care home and recycling plastics project. I was involved in the recycling project today. The company, called iZeeko, collects plastic from Victoria Falls otherwise destined for landfill, cleans it, shreds it, melts it down and pushes the melted plastic into molds to create beads for bracelets as well as bangles and coasters. There were many different colours of plastic to choose from, which we sorted, and we chose a white, black and red combination to make the beads to thread our bracelets.

In the afternoon, we headed to our local schools to coach tag rugby, to inspire them to get more involved in sports, work as a team, and prepare for the tournament on Friday. We coached for around 2 hours before heading back to camp and playing the usual card games, finishing the night with yet another sing and dance around the fireplace.

P.S. miss you all at home and can't wait to come back. xxx

Lucy:

We started today with breakfast at 7.30 and headed back to the community care home. My group had been assigned painting of a couple of the buildings that the elderly community stay in. We scraped the wall down to make them smooth and then painted them a bright turquoise colour. After a while some of us talked to the elderly residents. I chatted to a man called Ian who had been staying there since April. He told me he had suffered from a broken hip and a stroke but could not afford physiotherapy. Fortunately, his sister works as a chef at the centre and is able to help him daily.

The other groups continued their activities and after a couple of hours of working in the sun we had lunch with the young leaders and camp staff. In the afternoon we headed off to our schools to coach. We were able to become quite close to the children as we had coached the same ones yesterday.

Finally we left for the camp and had a de-brief on the day. After dinner we gathered around the campfire to sing, dance, and learn new native words.

P.S. I miss you mum, dad and Daniel. Lots of love xxx
