Monday 28th, penultimate day of activities before the long journey!

Hugo:

Today was far more than expected… I woke up to a lovely Fawlty fry up with a nice lie in and plenty of free time before leaving. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by too many baboons to count. To us it was crazy how vast the expanse of free roaming wildlife was. All along our route to the first stop we got more and more excited for what we were about to see. At the bottom of the gorge although we couldn’t see the falls themselves, got a great idea of the power and surge of the water and it was immense. By this point I realised people probably weren’t being dramatic about raincoats. We then climbed back to the top and had ample time to spend looking at the falls from all spots availabe, including Knife Edge bridge, very high, very terrifying but worth it for the gorgeous view at the top. We got more and more soaked the further we walked along and at some points it was difficult to see in front of you as the mist was so thick. Looking forward to tomorrow’s safari into the nearby national park.

Isla:

Hello everyone, today was super fun and I’m happy to tell you about it. We woke up nice and late today which was nice compared to our usual 5am wake ups in Eureka. We drove to Victoria Falls and when we got there the car park was filled up with so many baboons. They were so cool as they can act kind of like people. There was one who was drinking from a hose and a bunch of baby ones too which were so so tiny.

We started walking down the trail to the bottom of the falls and as we went down it started feeling more humid and more rainforest like. It was steep and slippy at some parts but it was so beautiful especially at boiling pot (the bottom) which looked like a massive rockpool. When we started going back up it was easier than going down. At first… when we got to the massive 600m stairs it wasn’t so enjoyable any more but still so cool to see all the wildlife and amazing plants.

After we got back up we went down along the top of the falls and it was so pretty. We saw part of a rainbow and gorgeous views. Some parts of the water had green stripes in them which confused me and I still don’t know why but it was still so amazing to see in person instead of just in photos. There was also a bridge we could cross where the mist was so strong we got soaked in minutes. In the distance we could see the Zimbabwe side.

We got back to a chilled afternoon of sitting outside and having a nice long nap which was all fun and games until I fell over in a super graceful fashion!

P.S. Mum, Dad, Zoe, Nuala and grandpa, look forward to the super awesome gift of my presence in just a few days and possibly some other things too…
