Friday - Tournament Day!
Xanti:
With an early start to the morning, and 2 days of coaching and training under our belt, today we had our first tournament for local schools. We arrived to the ground sat 6.30am and set up 6 pitches. Next we split into groups and decided our roles for the day. Over the next three hours schools arrived and with over 560 students competing, it was fairly chaotic. Throughout the tournament, I managed over 30 matches with Flo as the referee. The competition increased and after a long morning, we watched the exciting finals for the older and younger groups. In the end RCZ school took home both trophies and lots of donations. The other teams didn't leave empty handed and also received donations for the children. The weather was interesting - we were swept up in a mini dust cloud! When we got home we played some volleyball and games with some of the young leaders and ended the day with beef stroganoff and pool.
P.S. To Katie and Bex, don't forget to do Duolingo.
Talulla:
After waking up at 4:45 in the morning I got ready for the day and went down for my daily Coco Pops - yum! We left for our first tournament on the bus and did our daily obnoxious singing which deafens everyone, especially at 6 am. After we arrived we set up 6 pitches and delegated roles. I was a team and pitch manager but my school hadn't turned up to the tournament on time, so I passed over my responsibilities to someone else and focused on my pitch. I kept score, got the next groups ready to play, and most kids played barefoot or in sliders. The weather was very sunny and all was well until there was a slight twist - a sand tornado. I started thinking I would be in the wizard of oz where Dorothy flew away in the tornado. Luckily I was nowhere near and I watched. After the 36 games on my pitch, we watched the finals and Lucy and I handed out trophies and medals.
After we handed out all the donations, I went home and showered. We had our team circle and self-reflection debrief, and then Lucy, Xanti and I went to the shops with Mr Horrod. We played games with the young leaders including one called Teddy. It was only after dinner that I realised I was facing one pitch the whole day and only half of my body and the backs of my legs got tanned (slightly rouge).
P.S. Ruby, don't drive dad too mad. Love you both
